There's another fight going on inside the Labour party at the moment - not the one for Labour leadership, but one for the second largest individual mandate in Europe and control of a £14bn budget. The current Mayor, Boris Johnson, is due to come to the end of his term in May 2012 and the Labour candidate has already been chosen: Ken Livingstone.

Many people think this gives him a huge advantage over Boris Johnson (if he runs again). As Labour will have plenty of time to organise and raise funds, they will have more time to prepare than the Tories. However, many also believe that Ken Livingstone will be welcomed back as Mayor with open arms, not neededing a huge advantage to be the favourite.

Sebastian Coe

Whilst Sebastian Coe has been managing the hype and celebration of the 2012 London Olympics, another milestone in his own career seems to be have been overlooked. It was just over 30 years ago that Seb Coe first showed hsi mettle by winning the first of his two Olympic gold medals.

Sebastian Coe's latest speaking endevours

Sebastian Coe has recently been speaking at the Yorkshire Gold Business Club, which is aimed at ensuring the Yorkshire businesses are in the best position to cater for London 2012 related opportunities as the games draw closer and closer. As the games will bring lots of unique business opportunities across the UK, it is important businesses know how to spot, manage and make the most of them all.

Coe states that there will be more than £600 million worth of contracts over the next two years leading up to the games. Speaking of Yorkshire specifically, he said that there was no reason why Yorkshire companies cannot be part of the games phenomenon.

A Look at Hamish Taylor's Latest Business

One of Hamish Taylor latest endevours was as Chief Executive Officer of Sainsbury's Bank, which was a joint venture between Sainsbury's and Bank of Scotland. The ojective was rapid growth in profit from his position, utilising the ability to innovate and move away from the traditional banking approaches. He made the bank behave more like a retailor and this proved to be most successful.

Hamish later moved on to Vision UK in the position of CEO. Here he worked with clients ranging from Time Warner to General Motors and always brought profit back to the UK.

Hamish is now a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport, and was the Rail Professional Business Manager of the year in 1998 for his results at Eurostar.

The greatest British explorer?

Some say that the world's greatest explorer is the amazing Sir Ranulph Fiennes. He has been on some amazing expeditions so far, but he is now planning his next endevour, in between all his speaking events where he acts as a keynote motivational speaker.

He has been speaking to the press about his next adventure: “I just spent half the night talking to the guy who is doing the polar ship, who’s the same bloke who did the Transglobe ship, and he was just telling me that he’s got all the blokes that are still alive [from the Transglobe expedition] back from New Zealand, Fiji, all over the place, to man this ship for two years.”

For now, Ranulph Fiennes doesn't have enough money to buy the ship he wants, but he also won't tell anyone what the boat is going to do. The reason for this he claims is that he wants to keep it secret, as in the past people have stolen his ideas!

Ken Livingstone hasn't lost his touch

Ken Livingstone hasn't lost his touch. He has a new campaign with the slogan, "Yes We Ken", might easily be compared to something Barack Obama's team may come up with, but Livingstone pulls it off despite being a 64 year old grandad who has been working in politics since 1971.

Senior Labour MP Jon Cruddas said a second title for Mr Livingstone would mean “a top class Mayor from day one, who knows the levers of power”.

The winner will be announced in September. Livingstone is going up against ex-MP Oona King.

South London press have highlighted the support Livingstone has been receiving from his fellow Londoners, putting him in a very strong position for the new Mayor.

Fiennes Finds Something New

Sir Ranulph Fiennes is an experienced explorer: having been the first pensioner to ever climb Mt Everest and being the first man to cross the North and South Poles and climb the world's highest peak.

Currently however he has discovered something new to explore - his amazing family tree.

The seasoned explorer is related to a leader of William the Conqueror's army in 1066, three signatories to the Magna Carta, the first King of Jerusalem, King Henry VI and Jane Austen.

Ranulph Fienne's new book, Mad Dogs and Englishmen, explores some of the most amazing events and battles in British history, whilst relating back to Fiennes' relatives and their contributions.

Everybody Loves Ken Livingstone?

Despite having been beaten by Boris Johnson in 2008 for the title of London Mayor, Ken Livingstone is admired and genuinely liked among his fellow Londoners.

Returning to South London while campaigning to oust Johnson in 2012, he walked up Norwood Road whilst shaking hands with passers-by. A tradesman stopped to say simply "Get rid of Boris', while another passer by shouted from inside his van, "You're the best bloke we've had Ken".

Livingstone states he is more than ready for the campaign trail and role, despite his advancing age.

Put the fun back in motivation

Motivation is often one of the hardest exercises in an organisation, not only do you have to motivate yourself but you must also encourage your staff too. If you don't feel positive and motivated, then what chance do you have at motivating your staff?

One of the ways of making motivation a little easier is to make it fun. Money is not the only way to motivate people - try a few other little tips from motivational speakers...

- create an opportunity for a pay rise - let the employee work towards this as a motivation to work beyond their expectations

- reward your employees with something they value - this is not always money. Often it's just extra time off!

Livingstone also has the backing of London MPs David Lammy, Chuka Umunna, Virendra Sharma, Karen Buck, Jon Cruddas, Andy Slaughter, John Cryer and Jeremy Corbyn - Livingstone lost to Boris Johnson in 2008.

5. Use both short and long term goals – use both to create a balanced, overall structure to work. Without these, people have nothing to work towards.

Will Hutton: Public Sector Workers

The Prime Minister David Cameron has ordered an inquiry into the pay of public sector workers, including NHS managers, in an attempt to improve fairness.

Mr Cameron has stated: "The idea is to improve fairness in the public sector and say that, between the lowest paid and highest paid in the public sector, there shouldn't be a difference of more than 20 times.

"In any organisation in the public sector, the highest paid shouldn't be paid more than 20 times the lowest paid. It may mean lifting the lowest paid, it may mean reducing the pay of the highest paid, but it will make our country and our public services fairer."

Will Hutton's work was previously used to shape the policies of Tony Blair's Labour government. David Cameron has also consulted Labour MP Frank Field about poverty, signalling a desire to extend his government outside of the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

Predictions from Ken Livingstone

Ken Livingstone predicts clashes over housing between Labour and Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson.

Former London mayor Ken Livingstone has warned that Labour's success in the capital in this month's local elections could lead to a rise in disputes between boroughs and current Tory mayor Boris Johnson over affordable housing.

The Labour Party seized control of nine London councils earlier this month, regaining Ealing, Enfield and Harrow from the Conservatives and becoming the majority party in the previously hung councils of Brent, Camden, Hounslow, Islington, Southwark and Waltham Forest.

But commentators including former Labour mayor Livingstone warned the results could lead to disputes between Labour-run councils and Tory mayor Boris Johnson over issues such as the number and location of new affordable homes.

For instance, the situation could make it easier for Labour boroughs to push forward (their views on) affordable housing."

Tony Travers, director of the London School of Economics' Greater London Group, said: "Labour has traditionally been more in favour of affordable and social housing than the Conservatives and this has long been a contentious issue. The fact that the majority of boroughs are under Labour leadership changes the political dynamics of London and I expect more disagreements around new housing plans."

Sebastian Coe has high hopes for London 2012

Sebastian Coe has said that ticket sales for the London Olypmic games in 2012 will go on sale early next year. He has high expectations for the ticket sales, which will go on to raise £441 million towards the £2 billion games operating budget. He stated that there will be a "very big appetite" for the tickets.

At past olympic games, the first tickets to sell are prime seats at opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, athletics and cycling. These are also the most expensive.


Sebastian Coe said, "We are very confident that with the ticket sign up we had a few months ago and going forward what we have been able to do regarding price and structure of the events, there will be a very big appetite,"

"Of course ticket prices are predicated on a whole series of things, the structure of events, the flow of events, but of course ticket pricing is predicated on the envrionemnt we are living in too."

The Olypmic Games have not been hard hit by budget cuts, taking £27 million out of the Olympic Development Authority's savings for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. However Sebastian Coe remains positive about the economic and social impacts the Games will have on the UK in the coming years.

"We continue to make the very strong case the Olympic Games has an economic dividend," he said.

Adair Turner: Environmental Speaker

Adair Turner, or Lord Turner is the Chairman of the Government's Climate Change Committee in the UK. He is also the Chairman of the regulatory body which oversees the UK financial services industry: the Financial Services Authority. Belief and Confidence

What would you do if you took an IQ test and scored 94? This means you are "stupid", but also incapable of operating in a normal environment with other people.

Then, you take another IQ test, in which your score has now risen to 142. This now means you're among the world's most intelligent people. So, what happened the first time? An error in the testing system meant your score was calculated to be lower than it really is. Does this change the way you think about yourself, and how to work out problems?

Mr Le Roux from South Africa is a motivational speaker that experienced just this. He decided to use his motivational speaking to make jokes of the tests mistake: of how he became incredibly intelligent from incredibly stupid between two tests.
