Ken Livingstone

Ken Livingstone has been the chief executive of the London local governement twice, once as the leader of the Greater London Council (1981-1986) and once as the first Mayor of London (2000-2008). He has also served as a Labour Party Member of Parliment in 1987-2001 for Brent East.

After the Labour Party chose not to have Livingstone as their candidate in the first mayoral elections, he was elected as Mayor of London as an Independent candidate. In January 2004, he was re-admitted to the Labour Party and stood as their mayoral candidate in June 2004. He won with a total of 828,380 votes.

Boris Johnson beat Livingstone in May 2008, ending his term of Mayor of London.
