He is a writer for The Independent, writing mostly on Economics, as the Economics Editor. He has also authored several critically acclaimed books, including "The WOrld in 2020: Power, Culture and Prosperity"; "Capital City - London as a Financial Centre"; "Wake-up Japan."
He has recently won awards, such as David Watt Prize for outstanding political journalism (2005); Business and Finanace Journalist of the Year (2006 British Press Awards); Communicator of the Year (2007 Business Journalist Awards).
He also acts as a council member of the Royal Economic Society and a visiting Professor at the School of Management at Lancaster University.
