Muhammad Yunus, economist speaker

Muhammad Yunus, economist speaker, and often know as 'the father of micro finance', will be speaking at the University of Virginia's University hall. The talk is free and open to all.

The economist has been credited with helping to rid poverty in Bangladesh by creating small loans to many poor entrepreneurs, a lot of them being women. This has since been called 'social entrepreneurship'.

With Yunus' help, many people have lifted themselves out of poverty with the help of these small loans, and Yunus' method has become a global phenomenon.

Yunus and the bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. And in August, Yunus was invited to the White House along with 15 others and awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the nation's highest civilian honor.
